New York Report 2

My last report didn’t appear to post so here is attempt number 2…

My wife Kendra and I are in New York City for four days. The trip was given to us by our church family as a celebration of our tenth year of ministry with them.

We arrived late on Wednesday night. The city seemed to roll on forever underneath our plane. Peter from Greece was our cab driver-very friendly and full of stories. Our hotel is just around the corner from the Walsorf Astoria–we’re at Park Avenue and east 48th street.

Yesterday we hit the streets on foot. We ate breakfast at a local bakery-very good. After touring Grand Central station-I especially liked the market with fresh fish, meats, cheeses, etc.-we took our first NYC subway ride to Times Square. I was unprepared for the enormity of it all-the lights, the shops, the people. We really enjoyed the huge lighted ads, the three story M&M World, the three story ToysRUs complete with animatronic dinosaur and rides for kids, and just seeing all the restaurants and different people. Late that evening when we walked back through it there were even larger crowds and the lighted signs made it as bright as day.

We ate lunch at the famous Carnegie Deli where our Chicken Salad sandwhich and hot pastrami sandwhich could have fed six people. We saw where the Late Show was taped and we walked all of Times Square.

Then we took the subway and used our express tickets to bypass the lines and went to the top of the Empire State Building. It was such a neat way to see the whole city-we gained a perspective not possible anywhere else. Then we shopped in the 9 story Macy’s nearby-the one by which the annual Thanksgiving Day parade goes. I’m certain it was the largest store I have ever been in.

Taking the subway back to Times Square we ate at Le Bernadin and then saw Jersey Boys-the Broadway story of Franki Valli and the Four Seasons. The music was great! We took the subway again and arrived back at the Barclay just shy of midnight-tired but so grateful for a wonderful day.
