14 Yet it was kind of you to share my trouble.
15 And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only.
16 Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again.
17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit.
18 I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God.
19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
20 To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen. (Phil. 4:14-20 ESV)
My beloved,
Learn how to give.
That’s what real partnership is. That’s what real koinonia is. That’s what real community is.
If all you ever do is receive from others, you’ve not experienced community. If all you ever do is take, you’ve been taken for a ride.
If you want to experience authentic communion with people, learn to give. Contribute. Bless. Meet a need.
Learn how to receive.
That’s what real partnership is. That’s what real koinonia is. That’s what real community is.
If all you ever do is give to others, you’ve not experienced community. If all you ever do is fill needs, you’ve fallen for one big lie.
If you want to experience authentic communion with people, learn to receive. When you have a need, ask. When others wish to bless you, let them.
The same is true with you and me. We’re the ultimate community.
I want to give to you. I want to fill your deepest needs. Let me. Don’t be too proud to ask me.
But I also wish to receive from you. Your friendship. Your loyalty. Your love. Give them to me. That’s what real partnership is about.
Grace and peace,
Jesus
