At the recent ACU Summit held at Abilene Christian University in Abilene, TX Chris Seidman took an electronic poll of the crowd numbering in the thousands. He asked “Where do you feel most welcomed?” Four choices were given: 1) At home, 2) At church, 3) At Wal-Mart, and 4) At work. Using iMac’s, Power books, and iPhones, students and other attendees texted or emailed their answer. The results?
- 51% at Home
- 21% at Wal-Mart
- 19% at Church
- 1% at Work
Admittedly, one or more may have answered sarcastically. But if these results are even near-typical, they are sobering. More people feel welcomed at one of the largest mega-stores than in their own church. Only 1 in 5 of those at this Christian conference said they felt most welcomed at church. Room for improvement.
