32 These are the clans of Noah’s sons, according to their lines of descent, within their nations. From these the nations spread out over the earth after the flood. (Gen. 10:32 NIV)
Genesis chapter ten lists some seventy names of individuals and nations who live all over the ancient world and build exotic cities, speak different languages, and cultivate a variety of varying cultures.
There are the coastland peoples, each with their own languages (Gen. 10:5). There is Cush, the first mighty man (Gen. 10:8). There are great cities like Babel and Nineveh (Gen. 10:10-12). There are all the “ites”: Jebusites, Amorites, Birgashites, Hivites, Arkites, Sinites, etc. (Gen. 10:15-18). The list goes on an on. Different tribes and tongues and nations.
But they all emerge from one family–the family of Noah.
Meaning, despite their differences, they’re still family.
Despite our differences, we’re still family. Around the world, we share the same ultimate family tree. We share the same ultimate homeland. We share the same ultimate family roots.
No matter what, we’re still family.
Prayer: “Thank you Father, for letting me be part of the great family of humanity. Help me to see myself and all others as part of that same family. Help me to treat others as family members. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Action Step: As you read/listen to the news, consider especially the news about those who may seem different from you as news about your family. How does that change the way you receive this news? Pray over that news as if praying for members of your own family.
