What then is the Story of which each wiki-story is a version? McKnight argues that the Story consists of a five-fold plot which carries five themes:
- God creates eikons who are designed to experience oneness with God, self, others, and the world around us.
- The eikons crack, distorting oneness and creating “otherness”–otherness with God, self, others, and the world. This otherness becomes the central problem which the gospel fixes.
- God creates a covenant community which struggles to restore and expands oneness. This happens first through Israel, then the church.
- In light of the failure of this covenant community, God sends Jesus (the perfect eikon) in whom we find oneness.
- This oneness in Christ, however, only becomes complete when Christ returns again to establish a new heaven and a new earth.
Each wiki-story fits into this Story. Themes from this Story can be found in each wiki-story.
