Lord, may this prayer be to you like the smell of cookies baking in the oven.

As I knock on your door I hope you’ll answer as if a postman just arrived with an unexpected package.

Because what I want more than anything is for you to change my heart.

I’m not hungry for superficial change.  I need what only you can give.  I need a change of heart.

Help me so that I not only do not act on my evil desires–help me not to even have evil desires.

May I not only not do what’s wrong–may I not even desire what’s wrong.

Change my heart, O Lord.

Thanks for writing this. I was feeling pretty hopeless. I didn’t feel like i knew the words to pray but your post says it all. Thanks
